Electrik Rendezvous


Electrik Rendezvous was started by legendary percussionist Gumbi Ortiz to explore the fusion music that he is known for performing thru out the world for many decades. The band has a brand new crop of musicians that brings a new vitality to the fusion world. The repertoire of ER includes 70's hits composed by Chick Corea, Al Di Meola and Mingo Lewis and own compositions. An exellent mix of brilliant individual skills of special-guest Roman Miroshnichenko with a great enthusiasm of Florida musicians led by Gumbi Ortiz force to believe in new revival of "fusion" instrumental genre.

Line Up:

Gumbi Ortiz on percussion. World renown percussionist Gumbi Ortiz started playing with Latin bands at the early age of 11, bringing with him the knowledge of the West African drumming traditions that came from Nigeria to Cuba then to New York. Ortiz started playing with all the great Latin bands in and around New York City. But as fate would have it, Ortiz moved to Florida at an early age to be with his newly immigrated family from Cuba (during the Mariel boat lift of the 1980's) he settle there and stared to perform with many of the Cuban acts in Florida. Once in 1987 Al Di Meola saw Gumbi's playing and hired him on the spot to play congas with the guitar. Two days later Ortiz was in front of thousand people in Turkey, from then the two have traveled the world performing. In the late 90's Ortiz itching to play Cuban music with his side projects. Ortiz's vision of keeping his Cuban heritage intact in the new world lives.

Luis Alicea on drums. Luis , known as “the golden boy of the drums,” earned this fitting title due to his meticulous and precise way of playing the drums in recording environments as well as live performances. As a professional drummer, percussionist and producer, he relishes in influencing the music world by bringing excellence to all of his projects and raising the bar of musicianship everywhere he plays, immediately was sought out and requested by big headliners such as Grammy award winning artists Fania All-Stars, Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz

Elias Tona on bass. Elias was born in Barquisimeto, Venezuela. He studied Music Composition in Caracas, Venezuela and developed his professional career, not only as bass player, but also as a professional producer. The versatility of Elias Tona allows him to work in a wide range of music genres from pop, jazz, Latin, rock, gospel and many others.

Larue Nickelson on guitar. Larue Nickelson is a jazz guitarist and composer from the Tampa Bay area. He has had a varied and diverse music career with many different groups. As well as recording and performing, Larue is also a composer and  he is the jazz guitar instructor at the University of South Florida.

Justino Walker on guitar. Justino is a young guitarist on the rise from St. Petersburg, Florida. Born into a musical family, he was introduced to various instruments as an infant and fell in love with the guitar at the age of 8. Over the years, Justin has grown to be one of the most sought after musicians in the scene for in studio and live performance in all styles and has worked with many national acts.

Special Guest feat. Roman Miroshnichenko - who is a true guitar hero who holds the prestigious international musical awards (Independent Music Awards winner, USA Songwriting competition 1st Prize winner) and he is one of the most prominent virtuosos in the contemporary instrumental jazz-fusion field in Europe. His soaring career as an artist includes numerous awards from international jazz festivals and contests, as well as collaboration, performances and recordings with such world-renowned musicians as: Steve Vai, Al Di Meola, Larry Coryell, Djivan Gasparyan, Heather Headley, Marco Mendoza, to name a few.
